At some point in every guy’s life they end up going on a get-ripped diet.
They decide it’s finally time to lose the manboobs and gut and replace it with a sculpted six pack. They show up at the gym eagerly on day one and follow a strict diet only to see little progress.
As the lack of progress continues they ultimately give up and go back to their regular diet.
What went wrong?
Check out the article below for the 7 reasons most guys fail at their diet.
1 – No Progress Tracking
We put this one first because it’s one of the most overlooked yet important factors in determining just how successful your diet is. It’s hard to gauge just how much progress you are making by looking in the mirror.
Our bodies fluctuate daily based on exercise, food and water retention which is why it’s important to have an objective measure of how much progress you are making. Similarly, it’s difficult to pinpoint the success of your diet if you don’t know how many calories you are consuming each day.
How can you know if you are eating 500 calories under maintenance if you don’t record your daily consumption?
We know it sounds like a huge pain in the ass, but it’s actually quite easy after the first few days since you will likely be eating a lot of the same foods over again.
2 – Too Much Pressure On Yourself
If you’ve been eating sugary foods and have never lifted weights in your life then yes, it’s going to be hard to adapt at first when you switch to eating all vegetables, complex carbs and lean protein.
Our bodies react poorly and we get angry at ourselves for not staying disciplined. What makes matters worse, if you cut calories too drastically your body goes into starvation mode and starts desperately holding on to whatever fat is left. That’s the exact opposite effect of what you want.
Instead of making drastic changes to your diet you should make them gradually and sustainably to give your body time to adapt.
3 – You Don’t Lift Heavy A** Weights
Compound exercises like deadlifts squats and bench press are probably the 3 best exercises out there to build muscle. It is important to lift weights when on a diet to maintain your muscles and strength levels.
Nobody (or at least very few people) want to be really ripped without any muscles. So make sure to train hard and push it in the gym.
4 – You are Unambitious
A lot of people are victims of circumstance – they think they were born fat and there is nothing they can do about it. Forget the obvious fact that they’ve never really applied themselves towards a fat-loss diet – they’d rather just not work at it.
Remember Arnold came to America with limited English skills and barely any money. He became the most successful bodybuilder of all time, made a ton of money, was a movie star and became Governor of California.
If he can accomplish all that then you can definitely lose some weight.
5 – No Support
If your friends are enabling you to live an unhealthy lifestyle then that will not help your chances of getting shredded. It’s hard enough staying committed to a strict diet – having people eating fast food and encouraging you to get drunk every weekend won’t help.
If these people aren’t down with your new lifestyle then it’s time to find some new friends who are.
6 – Using the Wrong Supplements
The supplement industry is huge and obviously there are a lot of companies out there that only focus on making money rather than selling an effective supplement.
The most effective fat loss supplements are fat burners with legit ingredients. – You can see our top 3 fat burners here.

7 – Metabolism is Slow
Some people do have slow metabolism due to their genetics. While this is helpful if you are trying to put on mass, it certainly doesn’t help when you are trying to get shredded.
All that hard work in the gym usually leaves us feeling pretty hungry but are unable to eat too much because it will undo their hard work.
Fortunately over time your metabolism will adjust to your new active lifestyle and body composition but most people don’t make it that far.
