You will probably have realised that a healthy diet and alcohol don’t go well together.
When you are drinking, you crave food that is usually of the fast variety.
When you are feeling terrible the next day, you will stuff yourself with terrible food to try and get rid of your hangover. It is only natural.
The technical reasons why alcohol does this to us is because when your body is trying to break down the alcohol in your liver, your ability to burn fat is turned off.
With so many great events coming up this summer, it is not the time to go sober. If you still want to have a drink or five when dieting, you need to be smart about what type of alcohol you consume, as they are not all the same.
Red wine is much better than a pint of beer thanks to its powerful properties, such as anti-fat storage and anti-cancer features.
Having looked at all of the available options as to which alcoholic drink is the healthiest, the list has been narrowed down to one.
The drink is a ‘paleo margarita.’
You will enjoy it as much as you would a pint of beer, but without all of the bloating.
Most primal eaters and CrossFit enthusiasts have this drink as it doesn’t have much sugar or calories (approximately 300 calories and 30g of sugar as stated by UltimatePaleoGuide).
How can you concoct one?
- 2 shots of agave tequila
- 1 freshly juiced and pulped lime
- Soda water
- Shake it up and pour over ice
Why is it better?
Compared to a normal margarita, there is 50% less calories in it. Usually tequila has a lot of refined sugar in it, but the agave tequila cuts out all of this added sugar.
This will lead to less insulin spikes, diminished fat storage and a blunted insulin response thanks to the lime juice.
