As a motivational fitness influencer on Facebook, John Burk uses the social media platform as a medium to give his personal feelings on health and training. He never thought that one of his videos would end up being so controversial and garner as much attention, but one video did, going viral across the internet. He was accused of fat shaming. In subsequent interviews, he talked about how Americans want to have everything sugar-coated to them these days and they can’t accept it when someone doesn’t hold back with their views.
He is a former Army Drill Sergeant and served in both Afghanistan and Iraq when serving in the Army. Despite only wanting to help people, he received a lot of backlash for this video.
Here are the thoughts of some people who watched it:
“You can’t walk out your front door these days without stepping on somebody’s feelings.”
The thing is, John isn’t a bully trying to make people feel bad, he used to be obese himself. After getting in great shape, he wanted to help people to do the same.
After being bullied in his youth, John has a passion for the topic at hand and wants to do whatever it takes for other people to wake up, take action and get the right information.
